TimerPulse vs ConvertBox

If you’re searching for a ConvertBox alternative because of the countdown timer, you’re using a tool for one capability, not its strength. ConvertBox has a countdown. You can add deadlines using it but it’s not meant for it.

TimerPulse vs ConvertBox: Convertbox alternatives that add genuine deadlines

I used ConvertBox for my bundles/Black Friday sales, so when I setup my first evergreen funnel, I turned to it to add deadlines. Only to realize ConvertBox limitation.

ConvertBox is an on-site messaging tool. You can use it to build popups, sticky bars, slide-ins, quizzes and multi-step forms, then shows them to the right visitor using targeting rules. A countdown is one element you can drop inside any of those.

TimerPulse is a deadline tool. It gives each subscriber their own deadline and shows the same time left in your emails, on your sales page and in a bar or popup on your site. When the time runs out, it redirects them to the page you choose.

So the useful question is which job you’re hiring for.

What ConvertBox actually does

ConvertBox is a brilliant on-site messaging tool, and the countdown timer is one of its nice little extras. You drag it into a sticky bar, a pop-up, or an embedded box, pick your colors, and you’re done. No code, no fuss.

You can run use it to add deadlines in two ways:

  • Fixed-date countdown – one shared deadline for everyone (perfect for a Black Friday sale or a launch).
  • Evergreen countdown – a personal window that starts when a visitor lands on your page.

And you can target it by URL, so it only shows up where you want it. For announcements and flash sales, that’s genuinely useful stuff.

But notice what ConvertBox is doing here: it’s displaying a timer. That’s it.

What a “real deadline funnel” does

A real deadline funnel does everything that timer does on the surface, and then adds the part that actually matters:

  • The deadline truly expires. When the clock hits zero, the offer is gone. The price resets or the page redirects, automatically.
  • It follows the lead, not the browser. The same deadline travels from their email to your sales page to checkout, even if they hop from phone to laptop.
  • It can’t be reset. Clearing cookies or opening an incognito tab won’t hand them a fresh window.

That’s where a real deadline funnel comes to save the day. Because here’s the truth: a timer that never expires isn’t urgency, it’s decoration.

When ConvertBox is enough, and when it isn’t

Here is a simple way to see if ConvertBox is enough for your needs:

ConvertBox on its own is perfectly fine if: you’re running a one-time, fixed-date sale, you just want a visible nudge, and you’re not relying on the timer to lock anything down.

You will see a lot of businesses using ConvertBox for their live launches and fixed date sales like Black Friday, that ends at same time for everyone. ConvertBox’s countdown inside a sticky bar does the job well, and you get its targeting rules on top.

You’ll want a real deadline funnel if: you run evergreen offers, you send leads from email to a sales page, or your offer’s whole promise depends on the deadline being real. This is the entire point of an evergreen launch, every lead gets the same honest window, and it can’t be wiped by clearing cookies.

Remember: people don’t buy because of a clock. They buy because they believe the clock.

The cookie problem (this is the big one)

ConvertBox’s evergreen timer lives in the visitor’s browser cookies. That’s totally fine, until a determined buyer does any of these:

  • Clears their cookies
  • Opens your page in an incognito window
  • Switches from their phone to their laptop

In every one of those cases, the “evergreen” deadline just… starts over. They get a brand-new window. And even when the timer does hit zero, nothing actually happens. The offer stays live. Anyone can still buy at the “expired” price.

So you end up in one of two spots, and neither is good:

  1. Your offer is genuinely limited, and you’re quietly losing the sales you meant to protect.
  2. Your offer isn’t really limited, and a savvy buyer notices the reset, and trusts you a little less.

A real deadline funnel fixes this by tying the deadline to the lead (using cookie, IP, and email tracking together), so the window can’t be reset and the offer actually closes on time.

This is what tools like Deadline Funnel and TimerPulse do.

Tip: Want to test it yourself? Open your own offer in a normal tab, then in an incognito tab. If the timer starts fresh, your deadline isn’t really being enforced.

Which should you buy?

  • You mainly need popups and lead capture, and your deadlines are fixed dates: ConvertBox.
  • You run evergreen or tripwire funnels and need email and page to match: TimerPulse.
  • You already own ConvertBox: add TimerPulse for $147 and use both.

FAQ

Does ConvertBox have an evergreen countdown timer?

Yes. Its site lists scheduled and evergreen countdowns, with a redirect when the timer ends. It doesn’t publicly explain how the evergreen clock tracks each visitor, so test it across devices before sending traffic.

Can ConvertBox put a countdown in my emails?

An email countdown isn’t in its feature list. ConvertBox works on your website. For the email side you need a countdown GIF tool, such as TimerPulse.

Does TimerPulse replace ConvertBox?

Only if your popups are mostly there to show a deadline. TimerPulse has a timer popup and an announcement bar, but it doesn’t build forms or quizzes, and it doesn’t run A/B tests.

Which email platforms work with TimerPulse?

BirdSend, Kit (ConvertKit), MailerLite, Kajabi, and any platform that can identify a subscriber in a link. No Zapier or Make needed.

Are either of these a monthly subscription?

Not at the time of writing. TimerPulse is $147 once. ConvertBox is selling a one-time lifetime deal from $495.

The bottom line

ConvertBox’s countdown timer is wonderful for looking urgent. But if your offer is meant to actually close, and you want your buyers to believe it, you need a real deadline funnel that enforces the deadline across cookies, devices, and email.

So before your next launch, ask yourself one question: is my timer enforcing my deadline, or just decorating my page?

Want urgency that actually holds? TimerPulse will help you set up an evergreen email marketing funnel that can’t be reset, no Zapier required.
